Turn Any CSV Into a Searchable WordPress Page

A client asks for a searchable dealer directory, a price list, or a member roster, and the data already exists — in a spreadsheet. CCMS CSV Search skips the database and the page builder: upload the file, drop in a shortcode, and visitors can search it.

The problem it solves

Most "publish a spreadsheet" options on WordPress fall into two camps: a full custom post type and import pipeline that's overkill for a one-off directory, or a page-builder table block that chokes past a few hundred rows and has no real search. Neither is right when what you actually have is a CSV someone exports from Excel or Google Sheets once a month.

CCMS CSV Search reads the file directly. There's no custom database table, no importer to configure, and no risk of the import half-finishing on a large file — the CSV is parsed only when a visitor searches.

How it works

  • Upload a CSV or .txt file. The first row is the column headers.
  • Choose table or list display, colors, and pagination.
  • Add [csvs_search] to any page or post.
  • Visitors search every column at once — company, city, state, phone, part number, whatever the sheet contains.

Add a Type column and you get filter tabs for free: a dealer directory can split into Retail and Wholesale, a price list into Parts and Labor, without writing any code.

The file stays private

Uploaded CSVs are not attached to the media library. They live in a folder with a random 32-character name, and on Apache and IIS the folder is blocked from direct access automatically. Visitors see the rows a search returns; they can't download the raw file.

NGINX doesn't read .htaccess files, so on NGINX the plugin checks your own site for the gap and shows the exact rule to close it, with a Check again button once you've applied it. We wrote up the full explanation, including the rule itself, in the documentation.

Free plugin, and a Pro upgrade when you outgrow it

The free plugin is not a crippled trial. It works fully on its own and never contacts a licensing server. It searches one CSV file, the first 250 rows, with up to 2 filter tabs — enough for most single-page directories.

When a site needs more, CSV to Search Pro is a separate $24/year add-on: unlimited rows, up to 8 tabs, several CSV files on one site (each with its own shortcode), CSV import from a URL on a schedule, and a results-export button for visitors.

Get it

CCMS CSV Search is free and now available in the WordPress.org plugin directory. Install it from Plugins → Add New in your dashboard, or download it from the listing.
