CCMS Shipping Insurance
Give customers an optional “Add shipping insurance” choice at checkout. The fee is priced from the value of the order and the carrier they picked, using rate tables you control.
How It Works
- A Yes/No choice appears in the cart and checkout, on both the Cart and Checkout blocks and the classic shortcodes, only when the order needs shipping
- The carrier is read from the shipping method the customer picked, such as “USPS Priority” or “UPS Ground”, with a default carrier when the name does not say
- The price comes from the declared value (the value of the items that ship, before tax and shipping) and your rate table for that carrier
- When the customer adds insurance, a fee is added to the order. When they decline, an optional message reminds them they are responsible for loss or damage
Features
- Three ways to price each of USPS, UPS and FedEx: an editable rate table (declared-value bands, a flat amount, and a charge per extra $100), a percentage of the declared value, or a fixed amount per order
- A minimum and maximum charge for every carrier, and “No charge” options for UPS and FedEx on low-value orders
- Choose when it is offered with a minimum order value and a maximum insured value; it is never offered for Local pickup, virtual-only or free orders
- Choose where it appears: after the shipping options, above the order total or above Place order on the classic checkout, and in the shipping section or the order summary on the blocks
- An optional link to a page that explains what the insurance covers
- An Insured Orders screen with totals, filters by choice, carrier and date, and a spreadsheet-safe CSV export, plus an Insurance column on the WooCommerce orders list
- Insurance is not pre-selected unless you turn that on, because some regions do not allow a pre-selected paid option
- Your own label for the fee, your own decline message, and a taxable or non-taxable fee
- The choice, carrier, declared value and cost are saved on every order, shown on the admin order screen and in order emails
- A note is added to the order when a customer declines
- High-Performance Order Storage compatible, clean uninstall, and translation ready
- Developer filters for the declared value, the cost and the carrier
Good to Know
This plugin does not sell or underwrite insurance. It collects an optional fee so your customers pay for the cost of covering their shipment. You buy the coverage from the carrier or a third-party insurer and handle any claim.
The rates it ships with are examples, not official carrier prices. Set them to what your coverage actually costs you.
It works with the Cart and Checkout blocks and with the classic [woocommerce_cart] and [woocommerce_checkout] shortcodes. On the blocks, a fee is only added once the choice has appeared on the customer’s screen, so nobody is charged for something they were not shown.
Connect It to Your Shipping Tools
This plugin collects the fee and records the choice on every order. The CCMS Shipping Insurance Pro add-on uses those records to connect to ShipStation, EasyPost, Shippo and the carriers and adds a margin report. It needs its own CCMS license; this plugin stays free and fully working without it.
